Louis Vuitton Is On The Marc: Fashion designer Marc Jacobs has always been a successful commercial fashion designer, whose career has spanned more than a decade at Louis Vuitton. Pretty much like all the collections he has designed, his menswear collection for spring/summer 2012 (also designed by Kim Jones) seems ready to ring in the cash.
Hot damn was the J.Crew Fall 2011 preview good. Here’s one of GQ’s favorite looks from the presentation.
Fashionably Loud: If Jil Sander’s menswear show had the best sounding soundtrack this week then Prada’s Fall/Winter 2011-12 men’s runway show had the loudest and possibly most obnoxious. Judas Priest blasted through speakers as gaunt male models dressed in nerdy get-ups swiftly made their way through an impressive, multi-tiered maze of a runway. It seemed like Miuccia Prada was going for loud this season—jarring music, ostentatious runway. But, she seemed to turn down the volume in her designs. Having had produced a few outstanding men’s collections within the past couple of seasons, let’s just hope she turns up the volume for Spring/Summer 2012.

“Last night, the designer Billy Reid had been voted the winner of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner for 2010.” - Stuart Emmrich

“With magazines, you don’t really express yourself; you express a corporate vision, you express the vision of Conde Nast. It’s not really your point of view. You can’t say in the magazine what you really like, it’s all a very political vision. So I thought, maybe I should spend some time and energy to finally have my little voice, and now it’s happening.”

“Audrey Hepburn eyes up Cary Grant in Charade and voices her view: “Do you know what’s wrong with you?” she asks. “No, what?” he replies. “Nothing,” she says. Then again, there was only one Cary Grant.” - Vanessa Lawrence

Richard Chai S/S 2011, Monday, September 13th, 2010
Back from Richard Chai’s spring/summer 2011 menswear show at Milk Studios and boy what a show it was. It was one of the best I’ve seen all week. The collection had a world traveler element thanks to its earth tone palette, fish net tops and the - ahem! - infamous socks with sandals trend, which has been recurring on the runways this season.
Fashion stylist Robbie Spencer gave the collection a breath of life. There were pieces featured in the collection from Chai’s collaborations with Heutchy (shoes), Albertus Swanepoel (hats) and Laura Lobdell (jewelry). I’m pretty sure many of the editors and buyers approved, especially Phillip Lim who nodded approvingly to the beat of the music.
I give props to Michelle Lee who did a wonderful job casting the models. They truly fit the aesthetic of the collection. However, I would have liked to see more Asian models since Richard Chai is Asian himself.
Overall, I will be keeping tabs on the collection because this is the way men should be dressing come next spring. But, even more, this collection caters to a new generation of men who prefer a more casual lifestyle and wardrobe to reflect it.
